the fortune teller.

“the fortune teller, crazy woman”, i sit in my living room, hands on my magic device, seeing not so far into the future.

when i walk out my apartment where i work, i try to tell the others about what is it that i see and what's so dangerous to me.

“the fortune teller, crazy woman”. i stand at the corner where the town hall crosses the bank with a sign that reads “the end is nigh”. i ring my bell, i follow people, scream that i can see it all, that i know what's next, that i know how it ends.

“someone has to listen”, i say. “please, please just listen”, i plead, but nowadays, nobody has the time to listen to tales of the end of the world as we know it, we'd rather keep living five minutes more. and if it is true that the end is near, we would want to stop thinking about it, so when it's done it's done, it's over, it's gone, it's gone.

one day, a teen comes up to me, asks me what is it that i see, what's so crucial that he hears. i sit down on a bench, and i tell him.

i see hundreds of people, nationwide, worldwide, moving to the streets with signs in their hands and loudhailers in the other. i see them right in front of me, i see them next to the buildings that the government uses to kill, the people, the hopes, of every person who happened to be not good enough for this world. i see them carrying fire to the idea that we're alone, i see them holding hands and screaming “you won't get us all”. and the people speak of peace, the people speak of love, the workers speak of fairness and equality for all. and all i feel is the desire, to live, to move forward, to survive. “stop killing our people”, they yell, “our children are starving here”. i feel the power of the chants, the liberating rush of being all together to fight the notion that we all deserve to work and die alone. i see the speaker standing there, commanding his people, that we can have a better world, that we should stand up for our own.

and i stop, i look at his face, it's all lit up with hope, with the idea we can win. we can. could. we'll try. “please tell me some more”, “i need to know how it ends i need to know if they win, i need to know what you see”. i tell him kid, that's not all, not just the fire in our souls, because none of them will listen, and nothing seems to change. and i tell him listen, and look.

i see my ruler has forsaken me, he's left me lying in the dirt. he's waging war against my people, against my neighbors and them all. i see every politician, so tidied up in their suit, earning money on the backs of every worker who has tried to make their home a better place. i see them laughing at our backs, i see them playing with the idea that a company is worth 10 lives, i see investors and the banks, doing gambling with the money we earned hard, like human work is something you can play with without caring for the lives of every father, every mother, every teen who makes ends meet, and those who doesn't, or didn't.

i see money is irrelevant, i see it keeps us from loving each other, caring, noticing what matters, the fulfillment of our lives, finding happiness in our hearts, trying to make it so we die without a purpose that isn't working for the lords over at the bank, and eat, and work, and eat, and work. robot made of human meat, emotions disregarded, mental health exceptionally, tell me is it really what you wanted? to lead a life like this? to work 9 to 9? maybe a pause to fuel up? and cry.

he begs, “please how can i help? “must i also spread the word? is there anything in my hands to change the future of this land” i tell him boy, this isn't the future, it is the present and it's fast. all those people you saw fighting they're next corner from your house. so i said come on and join them, make them at least one voice louder and fight for what's yours, let them know they won't get you. he runs fast to meet their people, he runs fast to make things change, he runs fast to see a future, where his kids will better live. i pick up my sign again and continue yelling more, “the end is near, it is nigh”.

“the fortune teller, crazy woman”, thinks anything can change, thinks the power of the people will take us to the end.
